Prudential has appointed its interim general counsel and company secretary Margaret Coltman to the role on a permanent basis.
Coltman came on board in July this year, replacing former general counsel and company secretary Peter Maynard, who stepped down after 11 years in the role.
She will take up a permanent position from 1 January 2010, becoming a member of the group executive committee, which includes all business unit heads and a group head office team of functional specialists.
She will lead a team of 30 and report to group chief executive Tidjane Thiam.
Thiam commented: “I’m very pleased to appoint Margaret as group general counsel and company secretary. Her knowledge and experience will be a valuable addition to our management team. She’s done an outstanding job over the last five months and I’m delighted she’s accepted the role on a permanent basis. I look forward to continuing to work with her.”
Coltman was previously general counsel and company secretary at Lloyds TSB Group between January 2008 and 2009, where her remit covered both the group-wide legal function and the company secretarial department.
Before that she was at Norton Rose, where she did her articles in the late 1970s before progressing to associate and then partner.
