Morgan Cole head of insolvency Steven Heffer has quit the firm for Collyer-Bristow, leaving the Anglo-Welsh firm with just seven partners in its London office.
Heffer’s departure is the latest in a long line of exits – more than 50 partners have left since the merger of Morgan Bruce and Cole & Cole in 1998.
In addition to his mainly contentious insolvency practice, Heffer’s experience of defamation and media issues for clients in the sports and entertainment sectors fits well with Collyer-Bristow’s music, media and entertainment department. Assistant Gavin Kramer will join Heffer at the West End firm.
"I have a general litigation practice and a client base in the sports and media area. That sort of practice is not easily developed at a firm like Morgan Cole but should be at Collyer-Bristow," said Heffer.
Heffer has advised clients such as boxing promoter Frank Warren on libel cases and is advising the League Against Cruel Sports in the run-up to the anti-fox hunting bill. His insolvency experience includes advising parties on the BCCI and ITV Digital collapses.
The recruitment of Heffer brings the number of partners at Collyer-Bristow to 27.
