Maritime instructions drive the firm's presence in much of the Asia-Pacific region.
The firm has been in Hong Kong since 1979 and its Beijing outpost specialises in contentious and non-contentious shipping and trade issues, maintaining that its “proximity to northern ports and other major cities benefits… ship owners, ship charterers, commodities traders and shipyards, to financial institutions and insurance/reinsurance companies”. The Beijing office also deals with cross-border matters and commercial disputes.
In Singapore, the firm claims top marks for its expertise in negotiating, litigating and advising on 'wet' admiralty matters, such as collision, salvage and pollution, 'dry' contractual and other disputes around charterparties, bills of lading, international trade and commodities, shipbuilding, energy matters.
But the firm is alive to being stereotyped as focusing on shipping exclusively. It makes a point of claiming that the practice in Shanghai “offers more than advice on transportation and insurance”, claiming that it has been able to build on that expertise to expand into providing “a full range of services”.
