PA Group, the parent company of the UK Press Association, has named The Economist’s senior legal counsel Stephen Godsell as group general counsel.
Godsell joined The Economist from Clifford Chance in 2007 and will manage all of PA Group’s legal and company secretarial matters in his new role. It is understood that he is replacing ex-Olswang solicitor Kelvin Barker, who left PA in July to become head of legal at Sky News Arabia.
Barker took over the lead legal position from group general counsel Louise Cole in 2011 (9 May 2011), after Cole left the news agency to take up an appointment as group general counsel for FTSE International.
It is not known when Godsell will officially start his new role, which will be based at the group’s London headquarters. The move was announced internally in early October.
”This is a particularly exciting time for the company as it continues to increase its market share through organic growth and strategic acquisitions,” said Godsell in a statement.
