  • Four firms in the UK alone, and a dozen worldwide? I'd hate to see their monthly expenditure on legal fees, no wonder they are consolidating (even if it was prompted by departure of a key partner).

    I've found that a small-scale tender system works well for most run-of-the-mill issues - e-mail your regular firms with the proposed instruction and ask for a quote.

    This won't work for large-scale critical issues (think product recall, class action, etc) but you would probably be using your big-leaguers for that anyway.
