In-flight entertainment provider Global Eagle has named the former London-based News International lawyer, Jay Itzkowitz, as its general counsel.
Itzkowitz, who was most recently senior managing director of Cantor Fitzgerald, was associate general counsel of News America before he moved to London to become the director of legal affairs for News International (8 September 1999). While in London he handled all commercial deals at News International including buying up other TV companies throughout Europe.
Commenting on his transatlantic transfer at the time, Itzkowitz said: “Rupert [Murdoch] asked me to do it. When Rupert asks you to do something you don’t say ‘sorry I’m not going to do it’.”
Having spent a decade in various senior legal roles at News Corporation, Itzkowitz joined the London office of financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald eight years ago.
Prior to moving in-house he was a corporate associate at Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison in New York and has also been of counsel to Hogan Lovells.
His move to in-flight entertainment provider Global Eagle will see him move back to the US, where he will manage all global legal affairs for the group. It is not yet known who he is replacing in the role.
Global Eagle could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
