American media company CBS has appointed a new general counsel from Dell to suceed outgoing Louis Briskman.
Larry Tu will take over from current senior executive vice president and chief legal officer Louis Briskman who retires at the end of the next month. Tu will take up the reins in January 2014 after nine years at Dell and three years as general counsel at NBC Universal.
Among Tu’s long CV is a former partnership at O’Melveny & Myers where he focused on energy, technology and media transactions as well as several years as a US State attorney.
He will replace CBS stalwart Briskman, who was executive vice president and general counsel of the company until its split with Viacom in 2005.
Briskman joined CBS when it was Westinghouse Electric Corp. He worked at Westinghouse’s broadcasting company and its subsidiary company Group from 1975 until it became CBS in 1997.
Last year the company’s digital arm – CBS Interactive named its first ever in-house counsel in China with the hire of Daisy Wei in August (1 August 2012).
The American commercial broadcast network started life as as a radio network and is now responsible for TV shows like ‘CSI’, ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘The Good Wife’.
