Trio of firms retain spots on Standard Life panel

The three firms have been picked to advise the life company’s investment arm on real estate, construction, planning and real estate litigation work for another three years. The panel review took place towards the end of 2012, with firms being asked to put forward proposals as part of the reappointment process.

Property partner Shelagh McKibbin is in charge of the relationship with SLI at HSF. According to her, SLI is one of Herbert Smith’s oldest clients. At Dundas & Wilson, which does all of SLI’s property work in Scotland, Edinburgh partner Stuart Tait manages the firm’s relationship with the client.

Partners Mark Haywood, Michael Reevey and Richard Wheeldon led on Addleshaw Goddard’s pitch to SLI.

Until 1999, legacy Herbert Smith was Standard Life’s sole legal adviser, but then Addleshaw Booth & Co (as Addleshaw Goddard was then) won the right to act for the client on property work (6 July 1999).

SLI split from Standard Life Insurance in 2004 and around the same time established its own formal law firm panel.
