German pharmaceutical giant Bayer has announced the results of a review of its Emea and US legal panel, appointing a range of top firms including Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Linklaters to seven sub-panels.
The three magic circle firms are joined by German heavyweights Gleiss Lutz and Hengeler Mueller as well as Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Jones Day on the new panel. German legal magazine JuVe first reported the news this morning.
A spokesperson for Bayer confirmed the panel review but declined to comment on the review process or selection criteria.
The review was carried out by the company’s head of global legal spend management Ute Rajathurai.
All three of the magic circle firms to win places on the panel have acted for Bayer in the past. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, which was not named on the list, previously represented Siemens on its 2006 purchase of Bayer’s diagnostic division (25 September 2006).
Bayer has formed four Emea panels and three US-focused sub-panels. Clifford Chance has won a spot on both the European and US M&A sub-panels, while A&O’s US competition team has secured a place on the US antitrust sub-panel.
Slaughter and May’s German best friend Hengeler Mueller features on the Emea M&A sub-panel alongside the three magic circle firms and Cologne firm Schlütter Bornheim Seitz.
