In-house costs cut

Despite salary increases for US in-house lawyers and a continuing trend by companies to employ more in-house lawyers, companies have still managed to cut overall legal costs, according to a Price Waterhouse survey. It found that salaries for in-house lawyers rose by 5.8 per cent last year, and that 90 per cent of companies surveyed were recruiting or thinking of recruiting more lawyers, but many companies have been successful in controlling overall in-house costs by bringing more work in-house and bargaining hard on fees with external lawyers.
