The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators has appointed Michael Forbes Smith as its new director general, replacing Dair Farrar-Hockley following his retirement in December 2005. Smith has 30 years of international experience working on four continents. He was most recently the first resident British ambassador in Tajikistan. Prior to that he was deputy high commissioner in Pakistan.
