A new report by the Adam Smith Institute, published on 2 February, calls for the abolition of Queen's Counsel to ensure a free market in advocacy. The report was written by Peter Reeves, a former Oxford solicitor, and argues that the selection of silks is an arbitrary process which enables those chosen to that position to hike up their fees. The Bar Council has described the attack as 'unfair'.
