In brief: Newspaper Society boosts legal numbers

The Newspaper Society has recruited another lawyer to boost its legal advice service to regional newspaper editors. Carin Lake, previously with Clifford Chance and Goodman Derrick, joins as a part-time legal adviser in the society's government and legal affairs department. The department also lobbies Parliament, Whitehall and Brussels for the industry. David Newell, society deputy director and department head, said Lake was joining “at a time when demand for the society's legal services has never been greater”. Lake's work will include editorial, advertising, marketing, IP and other media law matters.
