In brief: National Law Week restates lawyers' role

National Law Week is a chance to put the record straight on the role of lawyers, says Law Society President Charles Elly. Addressing the Birmingham Law Society's president's dinner, he said: "This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Law Society's Charter. It is time to reflect on the service of generations of solicitors and to celebrate the immense contribution they have made to society. For too many, solicitors have become a convenient target for ill-informed criticism. National Law Week is an opportunity to redress the balance." The week runs from 22 to 28 May.
