Tunbridge Wells company Legal & Insurance (LIS) has pulled the plug on its mutual scheme Lawplan. The scheme, set up in 1994, was a precursor of "after the event" insurance schemes. Director Neil Mulroy said that the company had written to solicitors telling them that the claims fund was exhausted. "We've been let down by solicitors who misjudged the merits of their cases," he said. The company had no idea how many cases were still outstanding but reckoned it may be in the region of 15 to 20. He said LIS would refund the contributions to firms affected.
