In brief: Guide to race relations and religion in court

The Justices' Clerks' Society has produced a booklet in conjunction with the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders which advises magistrates courts on how to foster good race relations. The booklet, Race and Religion (right), contains advice on how to address people from different minority groups and gives information on the holy books on which oaths should be sworn. David Chandler, president of the Justices' Clerks' Society, said: "I am confident that this booklet will help magistrates and staff to adopt appropriate practices and procedures while also helping to reduce inappropriate behaviour."
