Former International Bar Association executive director Madeleine May, who resigned her post at the end of 1994 after more than 15 years in the role, has established a new award for excellence in pro bono work. May made an announcement at a formal dinner given in her honour at the opening of the IBA conference. A farewell collection from more than 250 former officers and past IBA presidents raised more than £5,000 for May who matched it with £5,000 of her own funds to establish the award. It is expected the award will be made biennially and presented to a lawyer practising in the region in which the conference is held.
