British Nuclear Fuels solicitor Edward Smethurst has become the new chair of the north-west branch of the Law Society's Commerce and Industry Group. Smethurst takes over from Barry Lewis, of CIS, who has been chair of the group for the last four years. The north-west group represents about 300 solicitors working in industry and commerce. Its managing committee is now made up of Barry Lewis, Mike Thorne of Redrow, Peter Sidwell of Refuge Assurance, David Hosker of North West Water, Martyn Rodmell of British Telecom, John Nightingale of the Co-operative Bank and Rachel Wilkinson of Ciba Geigy.
