London barrister Dinah Rose has beaten 100 finalists to become this year's Cosmopolitan/American Express Achievement award winner. A sex discrimination lawyer, Rose represented police officer Alison Halford in her case against the Chief Constable of Merseyside and fought for women in the armed services who were dismissed after they became pregnant. More recently, she took the Government to the European Court of Justice over discrimination against men on prescription charges. Rose, who received a £5,000 cheque at the Claridges event, was also the winner of the profession's category.
