Maksym Kopeychykov, partner and head of banking and finance at Ilyashev & Partners, delivered a speech on “Legal nuances of verifying beneficiaries and corporate affairs and credit default risk minimization” at the II Legal Banking Forum, held in Kyiv on February 24, 2016.

In his report Kopeychykov emphasised that disclosure of ultimate beneficiaries has not become a Ukrainian trend. He noted that despite the trend of making the rules more stringent, the EU changed its legal basis making life easier for banks: it is envisaged that if it is impossible to find the ultimate beneficiary, then the officials of the bank shall be regarded as such.

In Kopeychykov’s opinion, such a progressive rule should be recorded in the Ukrainian legislation.

The participants discussed topical issues of corporate management in banks, special aspects of working with troubled assets, trends of judicial practice in credit disputes and disputes with the Deposit Insurance Fund.

Legal Banking Forum is a communication platform between the government regulator and the leading players and consultants of the banking services market to find the best ways of reforming the Ukrainian banking system. The event was organised by the Yurydychna Praktyka Publishing House.
