ILEX grad wins award at minority lawyers' conference

Muhammed Abdul Muid Khan, who is now a barrister, was chosen for the award for ‘Advocacy in the face of Adversity’ after becoming recognised as a leading authority in the field of domestic violence and immigration rules following his success in a legally significant case.

Khan said: “I am deeply honoured to have been selected as the winner of the award. I am pleased to be able to represent ILEX in front of lawyers from all branches and hope this award will encourage all legal executives to continue providing first class legal services and get the recognition they deserve.”

Khan was specifically praised for his work on the domestic violence case, Miss Rume Begum versus The Secretary of State, which resulted in a landmark ruling where the judge found in favour of the client.

The first legal executive to be recognised at these awards was in 2009, where Harbens Kaur won the ‘Against the Odds’ prize, which is aimed at individuals who have overcome significant challenges and personal adversity in successfully pursuing their legal career.

The award ceremony and conference, organised by ILEX, the Law Society and the Bar Council, was aimed to celebrate the achievements of Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) lawyers in the profession.

The annual event offers awards that fall into five categories, which also include; Mentoring, Diversity – Less Talk More Action and Embracing Chance, which is a new award this year and recognises those who have faced challenges in the legal profession by developing innovative and creative business solutions.
