IBM hires new general counsel

IBM Australia and New Zealand has recruited a new general counsel from Geac Computers.

Vincent Pollaers joins the computer giant at the end of this month. Former incumbent Ayomi Burge will become general counsel for Asia Pacific.

Pollaers, a UK and Australian-qualified lawyer who initially trained at Freshfields, qualifying in 1995, has been with Geac, an enterprise resource planning company, for just over a year.

IBM has a global policy of handling most legal work in-house. Pollears will lead a team of five lawyers and 26 contract specialists.

Pollaers has a long-term relationship with Allen Allen Hemsley, part of the Allens Arthur Robinson Group. Although he claims it is too early to say whether he will use the firm, he says it would be his first choice.
