This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Hunton & Williams has taken the unusual step of appointing its new managing partner from outside the firm, luring former litigation partner Wally Martinez from global drinks giant Diageo.
Martinez joined Diageo from Hunton in late 2004 where he was general counsel and senior vice president for the company’s North American arm.
He was enticed back for the managing partner role after just 18 months at Diageo, and will split his time between the firm’s headquarters in Richmond, Virginia and New York and Miami, where he had a successful litigation practice before quitting.
Thurston Moore, who had been the managing partner since 1991, has been elected chairman, replacing Gordon Rainey who has retired.
The Lawyer understands Rainey will retain an honorary role on the 850-lawyer firm’s client service and business delivery committees.
