But the magic circle firm is pinning its hopes on the likes of Jeremy Hunt and the former managing partner of London’s corporate department Susan Howard, who last year stepped down to concentrate on private equity.
Hunt, who was associated primarily with public takeover work until a couple of years ago, has now refocused to make private equity his main target. Viewed as one of the firm’s small band of corporate stars, he has since had some success, advising WestLB on its £400m sale of the Odeon cinema chain and Hutton Collins & Co on its investment in noodle chain Wagamama.
