HSF hires a partner each from Bakers and Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia

Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has hired two partners in Australia, with Sydney corporate partner David Ryan joining from Baker & McKenzie and Brisbane financial partner David Lyons joining from Norton Rose Fulbright.

Both new partners will commence at HSF early this month. Ryan was previously a partner and the global head of mining and metals of Baker & McKenzie in Sydney, where he had practised for 14 years. He will work with HSF’s energy and resources clients on M&A and general corporate activity, with a focus on electricity, power and gas.

Lyons was previous a partner in Norton Rose Fulbright’s finance practice. He is experienced in advising financial services clients on transactional, regulatory and corporate matters.

The appointments come following a number of partner departures in HSF’s Australian offices, including two Sydney-based commercial litigators who moved to Quinn Emmanuel to launch its Sydney office (10 May 2013) and a five-partner team that joined US firm Seyfarth Shaw to launch its Australian offices (11 June 2013).
