HSBC Bank USA has appointed former general counsel of Household Inter-national Janet Burak as senior executive vice-president and as its new general counsel and corporate secretary.
Burak will hold the same title and position for HSBC’s US bank holding company HSBC USA. She replaces senior executive vice-president and corporate secretary Philip Toohey and senior executive vice-president Paul Lee. Toohey and Lee, who also shared the general counsel responsibilities, have both retired from the bank.
In her new role Burak will be responsible for HSBC Bank’s legal department, which has offices in Buffalo and New York, as well as for its affiliate HSBC Securities USA. She is also a member of the bank’s senior management committee. Her US federal regulatory responsibilities will expand to include all of HSBC North America’s US subsidiaries.
Burak will also continue to serve as assistant general counsel-regulatory for HSBC North America Holdings. HSBC acquired House-hold in March 2003.
