Training
The annual training programme covers black-letter law, with emphasis on the individual’s department area. There is also a bespoke portfolio of business development and personal improvement skills courses. One-to-one coaching is also offered.
Appraisals
Assistants make their views known through annual departmental meetings, electronic surveys, the firm’s Contact Partner Scheme and regular departmental ‘prayer’ meetings.
Partner progression
Of the firm’s 54 partners, 11 trained with Burges Salmon, 38 were associate laterals before being made up and there are five lateral partners. Youngest partner 29. The annual partner selection process requires a departmental proposal, board approval and a formal endorsement at the partners’ conference.
