Howrey’s London managing partner Mark Hodgson has left the firm to join Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW).
The departure leaves Howrey with just four partners in London and no IP capability. It comes after a flood of departures across the firm’s European IP practice, including the departure of 12 IP lawyers who left to set up IP boutique Hoyng Monégier (5 January 2011).
Hodgson specialises in advising pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies on IP, regulatory and product liability and matters.
FFW said his appointment ties in with the firm’s strategy of developing its IP and technology, corporate, and regulatory practices. His arrival brings the number of IP partners in Europe to 23.
IP and technology dispute resolution head Nick Rose said: “We’re committed to investing in IP both in the UK and across Europe as part of the firm’s focus on companies that are highly regulated and those with business models driven by IP and technology.
“Mark will be a significant addition to the team, enabling us to expand our patent litigation capability to match our expertise in other areas of IP such as trademarks.”

US firms ... 1 FFW..... 1
By the way, didn't FFW lose most of its trade mark expertise last year? What does that say about their current patent capability?

"I feel a great disturbance in the Howrey, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced."
(sorry, but from now on all comments on The Lawyer will have a Star Wars theme, it's just too good to stop.)

A large amount of the trade mark capability at FFW remained.
Whatever you think about FFW they are now and still are a large firm in the IP world.
P.S. I have absolutely nothing to do with either FFW or Howrey.

FFW is far from being the biggest IP firm in London, not to mention what's left lacks substance.

Did anyone say they were the biggest IP firm in London? They are a large IP firm and not all their trade mark team walked - a large amount reamins Good grief a large amount of anti FFW sentiment here isn't there.

The Dreamer still dreaming at FFW? Better read the press. The substance left. Face reality.
