Washington DC-based intellectual property (IP) firm Howrey Simon Arnold & White is taking on two insurance partners from Jones Day Reavis & Pogue as it repositions itself as a general service firm.
Lester Brown and Thomas McMahon specialise in insurance recovery and commercial litigation and join the Los Angeles office of the firm. Their insurance coverage practice will add to the firm's existing offering to technology clients.
Brown says: "Howreys is well positioned as the number-one IP and competition law firm. We will find resources to protect IP rights, company profits and market positions through insurance recovery."
The firm was formed at the beginning of this year when Washington firm Howrey & Simon and Houston firm Arnold White & Durkee merged to become the world's biggest IP practice, with 250 of the firm's 500 lawyers practising IP. It plans to open in both London and Brussels at the beginning of next year.
