Howrey has launched a London antitrust practice, raiding Lovells for competition litigator Tom McQuail.
The move is a response to the arrival of US-style class action litigation in the City. US firms Cohen Milstein Hausfield & Toll, DLA Piper and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom have already launched London practices to cope with the expected demand in this area.
Howrey managing partner Robert Ruyak said: "Our office [in London] has built an excellent reputation in both IP and litigation and it’s now time to add Howrey's third practice group, antitrust, to serve our clients."
McQuail specialises in EU and UK competition law and has been based in Brussels since qualifying in 1992. He made partner at Lovells in 1999 and was the firm’s Brussels managing partner from 2003 to 2006.
The firm has been steadily building its European competition practice: last month the firm hired Hauteclocque Larroumet & Associes name partner Jean de Hauteclocque in Paris.
