It's no secret that there's no love lost between media law firm Carter-Ruck and Associated Newspapers, publishers of the Daily Mail, but Tulkinghorn has heard relations may have become a tad more strained.
Media and entertainment set 5 Raymond Buildings (5RB) recently held a quiz night where the great and good from the defamation world pitted their wits. The contest left Carter-Ruck smarting, however, as its team finished last, behind rival firms including Olswang and Reynolds Porter Chamberlain.
But what must have hurt more than anything else was that Associated Newspapers' team, which included a couple of guys from Taylor Wessing, came out on top.
Carter-Ruck's underwhelming achievement entitled it to the booby-prize - a golden shredder. Amazingly, the firm didn't stop to pick up its prize from quizmasters 5RB clerk John Sizer and barrister Matthew Nicklin, who added some sparkle to the event by donning Jimmy Savile-style gold jackets and chains.
