Zachary Katznelson became senior counsel of civil
rights organisation Reprieve in February 2006 and
has since been a luminary in the fight against civil
and human rights abuses committed in the name
of the 'War on Terror'.
Katznelson's work has included putting pressure
on the UK Crown Prosecution Service for allegedly
failing to investigate claims of Government
ministers' involvement in 'torture flights', in which
terrorist suspects were allegedly flown to CIA
prison camps for torture.
Under the European Convention for the
Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading
Treatment or Punishment, UK authorities could
face prosecution if they are found to have allowed
prisoners likely to face such treatment to be flown
through UK airports or airspace.
Katznelson is also representing more than 40
Guantanamo detainees, some of whom have been
held at the notorious prison camp for four years
without trial.
