Waseem Khokhar
DLA Piper
Sector: Assistants

It has been billed as one of the darkest days in the history of cricket, but the ball-tampering row (and the subsequent forfeiture of the match) during the final test between Pakistan and England of last summer proved a unique opportunity for DLA Piper sports specialist Mark Gay and litigation associate Waseem Khokhar.

Together with joint global head of technology, media and communications Simon Levine, they took up the fight against ball-tampering charges on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board and teamcaptain Inzamam-ul-Haq.

They were successful in defeating the allegations, thereby becoming heroes to Pakistani cricket fans everywhere and removing a black mark from one of the country’s most revered sporting idols.

It was a perfect meld of expertise – connections in the right places, sector expertise and advocacy flair in a case that had global ramifications for the sport. How’s that for skill?
