| Stephen Wilkinson has largely escaped the media
spotlight until now, but on the quiet the Herbert
Smith corporate partner has built a practice that
most City-based rivals would be proud of.
Wilkinson is the relationship partner for some of
Herbert Smith’s key clients, including the likes of
BSkyB, Johnson Matthey, Severn Trent and Virgin.
During 2006 he led on several high-profile deals,
including advising Severn Trent on the demerger of
its UK waste management business Biffa and West
Ham Football Club on its takeover by an Icelandic
consortium headed by Eggert Magnússon, chairman
of Iceland’s football association.
Wilkinson also advised Virgin Holdings, Virgin Rail
Group and National Express Trains on the £163m
auction of Trainline, the online train ticket retailer,
to private equity outfit Exponent. A great run of
form in anybody’s book.
