| Many big firms have death row practices, but few
can have recorded such a success as Allen & Overy
(A&O) did in 2006.
A team of young lawyers, led by the firm’s head of
death row, associate Rainer Evers, acted pro bono
for a young Jamaican, Shabadine Peart, who was
facing execution.
Evers and his team took Peart’s case to the Privy
Council and, after two years of work, succeeded in
getting his murder conviction overturned – a rare
success in this area of law.
The result was testament to Evers' death row work, which has also seen A&O act for several other prisoners in the Caribbean during the past year.
