Employment specialist Lucy McLynn is heading for
the ECJ in Luxembourg with the first-ever Disability
Discrimination Act case to go to Europe.
McLynn and Cloisters barristers Paul Michell and
Declan O’Dempsey are all acting pro bono for legal
secretary Sharon Coleman, who claims she was
discriminated against by her employer Attridge Law
because of her son’s disability. The case has been
referred to the ECJ to clarify the UK’s provisions on
carers and will prove to be a landmark judgment for
untested legislation.
The case comes just a year after McLynn was
promoted to partner at Bates Wells & Braithwaite,
having joined the firm in 1999 as a young barrister.
She requalified in 2002 and is now swiftly stamping
her mark in this sector.
