Laurence Rabinowitz QC was already known as a
star before being appointed silk in 2003. Since then
the barrister, noted by solicitors for combining an
approachable and relaxed manner with a formidable
brain, has flourished.
Most recently Rabinowitz has been acting for
Deutsche Morgan Grenfell (DMG) and Sempra
Metals in two high-profile tax cases against the
Government. In November the House of Lords ruled that DMG could claim back 30 years of interest on
tax. Sempra is awaiting judgment in a similar Lords
case, which so far looks hopeful for the company.
Whatever the result, it is clear that Rabinowitz’s
reputation is sealed.
