It was an unpopular decision in some quarters, but it
cannot be denied that Keith Schilling’s work for the
Law Society on new disclosure rules was brutally
effective.
The society brought in Schilling, one of the most
active claimant media lawyers around, to fight its
corner. Schilling launched a judicial review against
the Department of Constitutional Affairs (DCA) to
clarify recently amended disclosure rules – and won.
The DCA’s decision to give in to the Law Society
prevents the media from getting hold of particulars
of claim and other court documents filed before
2 October.
Schilling’s year has also seen him advise on
the usual roster of celebrity libel claims, keeping him
at the top of the go-to list for claimants against the
media.
But the firm has also diversified away from media
work this year. It also appeared for GlaxoSmithKline
in May to secure an injunction against animal rights
activists, winning profile and plaudits for the work.
