| Take the biggest deals of the past 12 months and
there is a good chance you will see David Higgins’
name on them.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s corporate
partner defended the LSE in both its approaches
from Nasdaq in 2006. As The Lawyer Hot 100 went
to press, that defence was successful on both
counts.
And the flood of infrastructure deals in the second
half of 2006 saw Higgins and his team pick up some
blue-chip instructions, including advising private
equity consortium Osprey on its winning bid for
water company AWG and Goldman Sachs’
successful £2.8bn offer for AB Ports.
“Utilities deals are here to stay,” says Higgins, “and
we intend to be on the most high-profile [ones].” He
has certainly set a precedent.
