White & Case London litigation head Alistair
Graham was one of the most outspoken critics of
the UK’s extradition agreement with the US during
the past year.
Graham is acting for retired businessman Ian
Norris in his attempts to escape extradition to the
US on price-fixing charges. Attempts to secure
judicial review of the extradition regime failed, but
Graham fought on against the decisions in Norris’s
individual case.
But Graham has also been working on the
political front, combining forces with the
Conservative Party to draft amendments to the
Police and Justice Bill in an attempt to secure trial
in the UK for UK citizens accused of offences such
as those against Norris.
Although Graham has a high barrier to surmount,
his efforts have helped to make the debate over
extradition public and have alerted businesses to
the pitfalls of the current regime.
