What do you do next when you have worked on the biggest energy restructuring ever? Well, if you are Matthew Williams, you swap firms and effectively start again from scratch.
The lawyer was acting for the bondholders of British Energy during its restructuring. The deal wrapped up in February this year and Williams decided he fancied a change of focus - a chance to practise what he calls "pure energy law". During the summer, Williams jumped ship from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft to Hunton & Williams. Since then, he has been busy developing the firm’s UK energy practice.
Williams not only brought a wealth of experience with him to his new firm, but also a cluster of high-profile clients, including Gazprom, International Power and Morgan Stanley. With his eyes fixed firmly on the big-ticket energy deals, the lawyer looks set to make waves in the UK legal market for energy advice.
