David Green QC is a man with a lot to achieve, but he is setting about it with an admirably single-minded purpose.
In April 2005, Green was selected as the first director of the newly established Revenue & Customs Prosecution Office (RCPO). This combines the functions of the Customs & Excise Prosecution Office with the Inland Revenue Crime Group and the Asset Forfeiture Unit.
Green heads a 290-strong team that includes 80 lawyers, all of whom are concerned with prosecuting those charged with offences relating to tax, drugs and money laundering. His mission is to establish a truly independent office and to restore public confidence in its work.
Green is also planning to increase the amount of in-house training his advocates receive and wants to promote secondments at the RCPO, which will benefit the private as well as the public sector.
