There was always going to be a place for the man who won us the Olympics. He may have had a little help from his friends, but as commercial and legal director of London 2012, Charlie Wijeratna certainly played a major role.

Wijeratna was one of the first people to be involved in the Olympic bid and immediately set about creating a professional team, both in-house and with outside counsel, with the aim of delivering the Olympics to London. After recruiting help from the cream of the City (and strongarming plenty of lawyers into helping him), his immediate mission was accomplished.

Wijeratna has impressed a slew of City heavyweights and has not been afraid to chop and change those big names where he has seen fit. The bid was successful; now comes the hard part.
