The last Queen's Counsel? As a result of his 1995 UK call date, Tselentis pipped 3/4 South Square's Fidelis Oditeh QC to become the final member of the 2003 roster to be awarded silk. If, as is widely expected, the archaic system is done away with - or at least replaced with a more open and transparent quality mark - he will be the last ever barrister to achieve what has always been the benchmark for success at the bar.
Tselentis is a member of the group (which includes Sir Sydney Kentridge QC) of South African lawyers who have been extraordinarily successful in transferring their skills to the UK courts. The 54-year-old - a former chairman of the Johannesburg bar - is a specialist in commercial litigation, arbitration and advisory work in a broad field, with much of his work boasting a substantial technical dimension.
