Sturman, Jim QC
Jim Sturman QC, a criminal and fraud specialist, has rarely been short of high-profile and influential cases, but in recent months he has truly stepped up a gear. The Attorney-General's launch of a new independent Customs & Excise prosecution body in December is directly linked to Sturman's court success in the infamous London City bond warehouse case, in which he acted for several defendants. This action led to the Butterfield Inquiry, which found serious flaws in Customs' conduct in the warehouse cases and ultimately resulted in the establishment of the new prosecution body.

Sturman has his fingers in several pies and has a developing reputation in the football arena, which is unusual given his lack of civil law credentials. He was appointed last year as Chelsea FC's standing counsel for disciplinary and Football Association (FA) matters by the club's owner, Russian oil billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Last year Sturman was also involved in the prosecution for the FA of a gaggle of Manchester United and Arsenal players and defended Joe Cole for an on-field punch-up that occurred during his time at West Ham.
