As little as four years ago, 5 Raymond Buildings media barrister David Sherborne was mooted in the national press as a possible successor to the former doyen of the libel bar George Carman QC. If the 34-year-old's star continues to rise at its current rate, the prediction could just turn out to be spot-on.
Sherborne, who acted alongside his former head of chambers Michael (now Mr Justice) Tugendhat in Catherine Zeta Jones's, Michael Douglas's and OK! Magazine's successful case against Hello! last year, has been the senior junior of choice in almost every high-profile media case of the year.
He is acting for the Financial Times in its defence of a libel action brought by broker Collins Stewart over allegations made by a former stockbroker. He is acting for actor Ewan McGregor in his privacy complaint against a number of photographic agencies, and recently advised The Guardian in relation to the injunction sought against the newspaper by Michael Fawcett, the former private secretary to Prince Charles.
In the autumn, Sherborne was chosen by Teacher Stern Selby to lead on behalf on the footballers questioned in relation to the high-profile Grosvenor House rape case. He also advised Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on his travails with the Football Association following his missed drugs test.
