Tony Guise, as president of the London Solicitors' Litigation Association (LSLA), is widely credited with kickstarting the Government's latest plan to modernise and restructure the civil courts.
With other members of the LSLA, Guise has lobbied hard on this issue for more than a year. Late last year, at a meeting organised by Guise, the Government pledged to start work on a £100m private finance initiative to rebuild the Royal Courts of Justice, incorporating new accommodation for the much maligned Commercial Court.
Guise set up his own law firm in April, after leaving his post as head of litigation at Merricks. He is a legal costs expert and is also piloting a unique call centre litigation service for businesses.
The new service, named 'Dare', wants businesses with claims worth more than £50,000 to access lawyers from the member firms through the call centre in return for fixed-fee pre-litigation commercial advice. A moderniser par excellence.
