| Dixon, Dawn and Webster, Michael |
Savvy and no-nonsense, Dawn Dixon and Michael Webster set up the City's first black law firm in 1998. Since then the practice has thrived, handling mainstream work across the board for commercial clients, primarily in the SME sector and with a strong streak of media work - clients include Choice FM (whose director Neil Kenlock says that Webster Dixon is 'an inspiration to others to get to the centre of the legal world') and work on the film Emotional Backgammon.
The commercial work which is their bread and butter is leavened with a campaigning edge and a commitment to improving diversity in the legal profession. Dixon is chair of the London Association of Women Solicitors and this year Webster helped the Black Solicitors' Network - an organisation aimed at improving the status and profile of black solicitors - to become the first ethnic minority group to gain Law Society recognition. Over the coming year the Black Solicitors' Network will be setting up mentoring and training workshops for young people wanting to enter the law.
