Unusually for a German lawyer, Cornelius Brandi - a Hamburg shipping specialist and CMS Hasche Sigle's managing partner - spends most of his time on management work. And with excellent results.
Having managed to integrate a highly diverse set of businesses in both geography and sector (the firm is a product of a series of 1990s mergers and is one of the largest in Germany), Brandi has helped steer the firm to huge success. Central to this has been the firm's position in private equity and energy, underlined in recent times by deals for Deutsche Shell, Gaz de France and BP.
Reserved and focused, Brandi's next move will be to integrate CMS Hasche Sigle with the European CMS businesses - a big task, but his track record in Germany bodes well.
