This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Trowers & Hamlins senior partner elect Jennie Gubbins (scroll down for video interview) is not waiting until spring before she makes an impact as the head of her firm.
“I have the luxury of a run-in period. I don’t take over until end of March,” says Gubbins. “But we’ve already started making changes.”
The firm’s website is one obvious development and an area where Trowers - with Gubbins’ help - has begun to refresh things. Trowers has moved away from its previous focus on colour to an emphasis on reflecting its people.
Similarly the firm has moved from its previous location near Tower Bridge - a site jokingly described by Gubbins as being “in the middle of a traffic island” - to a new site on Bunhill Row opposite Slaughter and May and beside the College of Law.
“The refresh is about looking at who we are and what we are while the office move is a flag in the sand about us being a City firm,” says Gubbins.
The corporate finance partner was heavily involved in choosing Trowers’ new space. She also worked closely with the architects on the firm’s new office to create a more engaging, friendly, client-facing style. But her involvement with real estate doesn’t end there.
“We’re pulling together the real estate offering - the various strands such as construction, conveyancing and investment and simplifying the message,” adds Gubbins. “Not everyone might realise this but last year Trowers’ real estate team worked on deals totalling £3.75bn.”
Strategically and operationally Trowers looks to be in more than safe hands.
